The Young Leaders’ Scheme is just one of the exciting programme elements in the Explorer Scout section. All leaders in the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Section who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be members of an Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Unit. They are Explorer Scouts who choose to devote a large proportion of their time in Scouting to service in another section.
Tiverton & District Scout Groups host around 20 young leaders at any one time. Not all of them have been in Scouts before they become young leader, some young people come to us to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award Volunteering section.
Tiverton & District Scouts, alongside Devon County Scouts support young leaders through the necessary training to take an active part in the leadership of the scout section that they help.
Of course, it’s not all work and no play. We put on monthly activity sessions. These sessions can consist of formal training, activity suggestions, normal scouting activities or social activities.
